17 Moments of 2017
Looking back at 2017 I wanted to take a moment to reflect and share my 17 favorite moments from the year. I want to share with you my favorite moments because choosing just one photo from each event was nearly impossible. My 2017 was filled with a ton of milestones for me and my career. A few of those moments were, I started my own business, photographed my first music festival, was given my first all access pass and got to assist my favorite photographer on one of her sets. I hope you enjoy my favorite moments of 2017! Also these are not chronologic
The Japanese House US Tour 2017 (March 8th)
This show is super special for me because it was the first show I got to photograph for Interscope Records and was one of the first concerts that I photographed. I was very scared because I really had no idea what I was doing especially because there was no barricade.
LAYNE x Soren Bryce Fall Tour (October 6th)
LA based noise LAYNE played the legendary 924 Gilman Street with new artist Soren Bryce on their co headlining fall tour last October. It is always tricky photographing in small venues with little to no light but the results are always fun!
Andrew McMahon’s Zombies in America Tour (May 6th and 7th)
The legendary Andrew McMahon made his way to the Bay Area for two nights of amazing music last May! It is always a blast photographing McMahon with all of his crazy antics and confetti. These are a few of my favorite shots from the two nights! I love one of the photos so much that I used it as the image on my business card!
Live 105’s BFD (June 10th)
This was a very special day for me in my career! This was the first festival that I got approved to photograph for and even though I did not get to photograph the main stage I had a great time shooting the festival stages! Some of my favorite sets from that day were, New Politics, SWMRS, and Taking Back Sunday.
Silent Pilot (November 10th)
It is always a great day when the boys of Silent Pilot invite me out to photograph their show! This day was no different. I really loved this day because I got some fun green room photos before and after their set! Thanks for having me out guys!
Vans Warped Tour (August 4th)
This was the second festival that I photographed ever! It was a really special day because I have been going to Warped Tour for years and to finally get to photograph it was really cool! I also got to take a class with the legendary rock photographer Lisa Johnson!
The Offspring Fall Tour (September 27th)
When I got the confirmation email saying that I would be photographing The Offspring at Shoreline Amphitheater I was already a bit nervous because it was going to be the largest show I had photographed. Then when I found out that I was going to have an all access pass to photograph the band hanging out backstage and their entire set I thought I was going to throw up. The good news is that I did not throw up and I also did not unplug anything on the stage! All photos shot for The Offspring and Restless Digital.
Misterwives on the Connect The Dots Tour (October 4th)
It is always a joy to be in the same room as the lovely Misterwives and in 2017 I finally got the chance to photograph their show! The last time I saw them was back in 2015 while they were touring their debut album. It was a great show and their newish album Connect The Dots is phenomenal. Keep killing it Mandy and Crew, I can’t wait to see what is next for you guys!
Louis The Child on Their Last To Leave Tour (December 10th)
This was the last show of a crazy weekend that consisted of photographing the equivalent of 5 shows in the span of 3 days. Needless to say I was a bit burned out at this point. I had been listening to Louis the Child since they released their song with K.Flay. I had a great time and it was one of the first raves that I photographed and their openers, Louis Futon and Ashe were great as well! Thank you Interscope and Louis The Child for having me out!
SWMRS Fall Tour (October 26th)
I was very excited when I got the email from SWMRS team inviting me out to photograph their show last October in Santa Cruz! It was a crazy experience and was a great show with amazing energy! Thanks for having me out guys!
The Used: Album Release Day and Start of Fall Tour (October 27th)
On October 27th The Used released their album The Canyon and started their Fall Tour in San Francisco! I had the pleasure to photograph their set and experience all the love that was in that room. A funny story about that night I did not know I had a pass that let me shoot their entire set from the photo pit until one of the managers of the venue found me and gave me the correct passes! Photos for Restless Digital and The Used!
Hanging Out With Little Empire (December 1-3)
While out photographing Mosaics a new up and coming local band I discovered new band Little Empire from LA! I asked them if they would be interested in taking some portraits before their show in San Francisco and just hang out for a bit. While we were taking portraits we ended up being followed by a homeless man for about 10 blocks and even though it was quite scary I got some of my best photos I have ever taken from that portrait session! Hey guys if you are reading this lets hang out sometime soon!!
Late Night With Saint Motel Tour (October 28th)
I was really excited when I got the email back saying that I was confirmed for the Late Night with Saint Motel tour show in Santa Cruz because I have seen their live show before and it was such an amazing show. Also half way through their set Greg their drummer invited me on stage and said that I could take photos from the stage! Thanks Greg!
Being Ashley Osborn’s Assistant (August 8th)
I honestly never thought that this would happen to me but I got to assist one of my all-time favorite photographers while she was taking promotional photos for Bay Area band I The Mighty. Being a relatively new photographer I am always fascinated by other photographers work flow and how they work with clients. Ashley taught me that there is so much more than the camera that goes into making a good photo! Also the guys in I The Mighty are super nice for allowing me to join for the afternoon! Ashley if you are reading this, thank you! It means the world to me that you took the time out of your day to help an up and coming photographer learn a little! :)
Live 105’s Not So Silent Night: Night 1 (December 8th)
This night was really special to me because it was the first night of a two day festival that I had the opportunity to photograph! NSSN is a festival that I have been going to for the past 4 years and never had the chance to photograph it so when I got confirmed I was stoked! The lineup for night one was solid with, Welshey Arms, Manchester Orchestra, Vance Joy, Portugal, the Man and the headliner for night one was The Lumineers. I just want to say thank you to Live 105 (now Alt 105) for giving me a chance and letting me photograph both of your big festivals this past year!
Live 105’s Not So Silent Night: Night 2 (December 9th)
The reason why I made night two of NSSN a separate moment is because first of all the lineup of both nights was just too large to be one moment, and secondly because I wanted to take a step back and reflect on the fact that I actually got to photograph a festival that I had been going to for so long! Night 2’s lineup was ridiculous it had, Alice Merton, Walk The Moon, Foster The People, Weezer and The Killers. Although I did not get to photograph The Killers I got to spend the holiday concert surrounded by friends and amazing music.
SnowGlobe Music Festival (December 29-31st)
My favorite moment of 2017 was getting to photograph and attend SnowGlobe music festival in South Lake Tahoe over the New Year’s Eve weekend. I never in a million years thought that I would get to photograph a 3 day music festival so fast in my career let alone a huge EDM festival to ring the New Year in! The festival included artists like, ZEDD, Dillon Frances, Khalid, Louis Futon and to ring the New Year in was Australian badass Alison Wonderland! This festival was so freeing and really got my creative juices flowing. It was also amazing to see everyone so happy and genuinely enjoying the music and having the time of their lives! Thank you SnowGlobe hopefully I will be back next year!
